Big news in the Zambonin household… there’s going to be a new member coming this fall in the form of a little baby boy!!!

I’d been debating with myself on whether or not I should post this on the blog, how much baby stuff should be on here, should our future kid be on here…?? But I finally came to the conclusion that I started this blog as a place to share bits of my life and the things that I make and do that I enjoy, so baby and baby related things will probably fall into that category ;)

I’m pretty sure there won’t be a baby overload (famous last words?), but the nursery is slowly coming together and I would guess that there will be other things here and there that I’ll want to share. So we will see where it goes!

The little one is said to be arriving sometime around halloween so I have 4 short months to wrap my head around this and get everything as prepared as I can!

If you have kiddos what were some of the things that you did to get read for their big debut into the world?? Let me know in the comments below! (you’ll need to click on the post title above to be able to comment :)

Amy, I’ve been thinking a lot about you guys lately an what I wish we would have known before Lily was born. What great timing for your post!! I hope you don’t mind me leaving this here. Remember, people will throw all kids of suggestions at you like gospel- take from them what you feel is fitting and don’t sweat the rest!

Here are some things that may hopefully help you out, or save you some $$$ without compromising quality!
Babies R Us has a Babyfest twice a year- once in spring and once in fall. Things go on great sales- we got our car seat and stroller for 350 and it was regularly 599.
If you do a diaper party or receive some as gifts, if your baby outgrows them before you open the box, you can exchange it for another size if you bring it back to the store it may have came from (Walmart and Costco are the best for this I’ve heard)!
Lucies List is the best email list I’ve ever signed up for. Full of laughs and helpful suggestions and not spammy at all. So glad to have found it!
Space saving tip/cool product alert; Graco makes a playpen that has a bassinet in it that when you push a button it flips over to a changing table. So great! Makes our life a lot easier (and saves on space of you think you’d like him to nap by you when you watch tv or something) an when babe gets bigger the playpen is going to be useful too. Babyfest gave us this option at 50% off!
If you choose to breastfeed, make ire you pick up lanolin. If you have baby boy latch directly or if you pump, it’s going to help out a LOT, especially in the early days!
Also, if you do go this route, remember that it’s okay if it seems hard at times. I’ll be honest and tell you that I broke down crying in the hospital twice trying to breastfeed and just felt like a failure. Pro tip: as long as your baby is fed, you’re doing it right. Formula or breast milk. Milk comes in and things get easier- do what brings you peace, as a happy mama is the best thing for baby!
Another breastfeeding thing- if you go this route, wait to buy a breast pump. You can rent hospital grade ones from Lawtons (they’re closed systems and you buy or take your own parts from the hospital), and this gives you time to shop around or to see if it’s for you. $100 deposit that you get back and something like 18$ a week to do it. Totally worth it!
The hospital will teach you so much, and even though it’s a lot to take in at times (Lily was in the NICU for a week and we were total zombies), they even will give you support for when you get home. Don’t panic!
Bring some comfy clothes to the hospital and make sure you use them as soon as you’re ready! Totally beasts hospital gowns!
If you can swing it, a baby carrier of sorts will be your best friend. Got one a few weeks ago and ant believe we went 3 months without it!
Eat. Eat well and lots of water. Remember you’re fueling two, and it will also help your milk come in later. Plus, elastic pants around thanksgiving. HELLO!
Swaddling is not always the be all and end all. We have loads of swaddlers, used them 4 times tops. She Hated them, got too warm even in February without a blanket over top. Some people swear by them, but they weren’t our thing for this baby!

Don’t sweat it- it all comes! You’re never going to understand how you lived without him!!!
You’ve got this, mama and papa! If you ever want to talk, ask questions, or need a sounding board for concerns or frustrations, weird cravings or anything, feel free to reach out anytime. I felt pretty alone at times living in a province where we didn’t have a big support system, so even though that is hopefully different for you, I’m happy to lend you an ear if you ever need one!!
All the best to you 3, from us 3!

This was the greatest thing to read! Thank you! I find that I question a lot of internet tips and advice because I wonder if what they’re saying will actually apply to me, but hearing these things from someone who just experienced it all is so much better and reassuring. Everyone seems to be the extreme… either “baby will just need diapers and you” or its “here’s a billion and one things that you’ll want to get before baby arrives!”, so having a middle ground is more what I’m aiming for ;)
Thanks for the encouragement and advice – I really really appreciate it!! Hope you and your cute little family are doing great! I love seeing your Lily updates on Instagram :)
