I’ve probably said this before, but I’ve lived in Ottawa for almost 3 years now and I still haven’t done so many things here. So this summer I’m trying to fix that and visit as many places as I can think of! Maybe it’s because I love being a tourist combined with the fact that I’ve lived in so many different places in my adult life, but I’ve always had a thing for being a tourist in my own city.
I’m pretty convinced that cities are what you make of them and if you think your’s is boring then you’re just not getting out and going different places and seeing it with new eyes. Give it a try this week! Walk down a street you’ve never walked down before, go to a cafe you’ve only heard about, find out what quirky studios, shops, or museums are in your area and make a field trip out of it. Take a camera and a friend and have fun!
So in the spirit of all that, I’m happy to say that on Friday I got to follow my own advice and go to the gorgeous tropical greenhouse at the Experimental Farms in Ottawa!
Beside it are about 4 or 5 other greenhouses so I just assumed they were all the same thing, but turns out it’s actually just one smaller building. Good thing for my friend and I is that we’re both photographers and spent a good 45 minutes walking in circles, taking photos, and catching up. So it was kind of perfect after all.
Admission and parking is free (woo!) and after you’re done there you can walk over to the Ornamental Gardens, have a picnic in the Arboretum, or head over to the Agriculture and Food museum which is basically a little farm (you do have to pay admission for this one though).
Stayed tuned for more Ottawa happenings…. the other night I decided on my favorite place to go in Ottawa in the summer and I’m so excited to share it with you!
