Hooper’s Sugar Shack

Happy Saturday! And to make it even better I’ve got this bonus post this weekend! And to make it even better it’s a maple syrup covered post!

Last year some of Matt’s family started a sugar shack at their home in the country (remember the syrup in this post? That’s where we got it!), and over the summer they expanded and built a sugar shack to produce a whole lot more syrup.

This spring it’s been in full swing and they’ve been working hard making bottle after bottle of the sweet, delicious, golden liquid so Matt and I stopped in last week to get some photos and video of it all.

For all you non-eastern Canadians out there like me:

“A sugar shack is a semi-commercial establishment, prominent mainly in Eastern Canada. Like the name implies, sugar houses are small cabins or series of cabins, originally destined to belong to certain private or farm estates, and where sap collected from sugar maple trees is boiled into maple syrup.” Wikipedia

It’s funny how maple syrup such a stereotypical Canadian thing, but since this country is so big and it only really gets made out east I had never even tried the real stuff until I was an adult.

Although, it’s probably a good thing it took me so long to try it because once I did I decided the best was to consume it was to drink it straight from the bottle. Not even joking ;)

And now I’ll leave you with the video that Matt made. I might be a bit biased, but I completely love it
