Hello! Today I bring to you this simple, but cute, necklace DIY!
What you need:
– 3/4″ wood blocks
– string, chain, or ribbon
– paint and brush
– painters tape or masking tape
– needle, small enough to fit through the drilled hole
– hot glue gun
– drill if your block don’t have pre-drilled holes
I found my wood blocks at Michael’s in a pack of 6 for $2. They had a bigger bag of them with pre-drilled holes for $7, but since I only needed 3 for a necklace I didn’t want to spend that much. So if you’re in the same boat as me start by drilling a hole through the centre of each block. If you want the blocks to hang as a diamond instead of flat then drill the holes closer to the corner instead of in the middle.
Next up decide what design you want and use the tape to cover the areas you don’t want painted. Paint away! I did 3 coats of the gold, but only needed 1 coat of the coral.
Cut a piece of string a few inches longer then the length you’d like (I held it up around my neck to make it the perfect length for me), and use the needle to thread it through the blocks.
Hot glue the blocks together and add a small dab on either end where the string comes through. This will keep it from spinning around. I clamped mine together while they dried, but you can just hold them together for a few minutes while the glue dries and that should do the trick.
Tie the loose ends together in a knot or a bow and trim off any extra string. Toss that baby over your favorite outfit and sit back and enjoy the happiness it brings you knowing you made something awesome! See how happy I am? Totally not posed. At all.*
*totally posed. But this project did actually make me pretty happy.
