Year of Getting Stuff Done – January Update

Welcome to the end of the first month of 2015. Crazy isn’t it?! Gone are the moments of ambition and the “this year will be different!” proclamations. Thirty-one days into the year and does anyone even remember what their new years resolutions were anymore? But good news everyone: today is the first day of the rest of the year so there’s still time to make some changes and do those things you wanted to do 31 days ago!

So with all that in mind I thought I should have an update on how my 2015 to-do’s are going so far:

What worked:

Drinking water everyday – I got myself a water bottle and bring it with me when I’m working in the the office or wherever so that I always remember to drink some. I also keep track on my little daily notes, but that’s more because I get satisfaction from checking it off : )

More reading, less internet-ing – I got 2 books for Christmas and am currently half way through the first one. Yay! PS, If you’re curious I’m reading Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham. It’s an easy read, with a cute storyline. Seemed like a good one to start with to remind me again how much I actually like reading.

Make a year-in-our-life photo book – This is this week’s project! But I have the photos and stuff for it already, so hopefully it’s a breeze…

I also gave our office a makeover which had jumped from to-do list to to-do list since last fall. So I’m pretty happy that I got that accomplished this month!

What didn’t:

Get Moving – I kind of failed on this one for a few different reasons. First off, my plan was to do 60 minutes a week, but I ended up going for an hour walk one day and then using that as a reason, aka excuse, to not have to do anything else the rest of the week. And I feel that that’s probably not exactly helpful to my health. The other reason is that we were away visiting my family for 10 days so that always throws these plans into chaos. So my new thought is to come up with something a little more routine for February.

Meal planning – This isn’t exactly a fail because I wasn’t actually planning on starting this one until February since we were away a lot in January. Although, I did write up a whole meal plan and grocery list for February and so far it took way more work then I originally thought it would. So we will see if the execution of it makes it worthwhile.

I also want/need to spend more time working on my photography business. January was kind of a write off for that, so I’m going to try and figure out some ways to focus on it in February.

The other thing I’m learning is to ignore the haters. If you tell people your plans and their response is “oh, I’ve tried that and I didn’t like it/didn’t work” or “why would you do that?” or “you should do it this way instead” don’t let it discourage you! Easier said than done, but it’s not their life that it will affect it’s yours. So make your life what you want it to be and ignore all the rest : )
