A while ago my mom got into making her own body scrubs at home, and when she showed me how to make it I was shocked at how simple it was! Not only does it require ingredients which you probably already have in your cupboard, but it’s way cheaper then store bought scrubs, AND my skin feels a million times softer and smoother with the homemade one! Oh, and did I mention it takes about 2 minutes to make? Awesome.
What you need:
– Sealable container
– Sugar (white or brown)
– Oil (olive or coconut)
– Vanilla or essential oils
Optional: honey or lemon juice if you want to lighten darker spots like elbows and knees, or if you have darker hair on your legs.
Mix together 2 parts sugar to 1 part oil, add a few drops of vanilla or essential oil, and stir well.
You can keep the jar in your shower, just make sure to not get any water in it or the sugar will dissolve. I found that the oil does separate a bit after a while, but if you just give it a quick stir before you use it then its just like new!
Some people suggest using it on your legs before you shave and then again immediately after – apparently it makes your legs crazy soft and smooth. But I’m too lazy to do that so I just like to scrub it all over my arms and legs, and then use my regular body wash afterwards to rinse off any left over oil. Moisturize when you get out of the shower and you’ll have the silkiest body around!
It also makes a great gift or bridal shower favour! Mix up a big batch and then divide it into cute little jars (the ones pictured are from the dollar store). Tie a label on with a ribbon and done! And to make it even easier for you I’ve made some printable labels that you can download and cut out yourself :)
