Smoothies have got to be one of the most delicious parts of summer. I love being able to come home after a hot day in the sun, throw a bunch of fruit into a blender, and a few minutes later have an icy cold drink/snack ready to enjoy!
At the bottom of this post I’ve included a link to my basic smoothie recipe, but there are so many combinations you can do that I suggest just trying a bunch and see what you like!
Here are a few of my favourites:
– Black cherry/mixed berry with strawberry yogurt and cranberry juice
– Mango, peach, banana with vanilla yogurt, tropical juice, and a dash of vanilla extract
– Banana with peanut butter and milk
If all your fruit is frozen ahead of time then you don’t need to add any ice cubes, which is nice because I find ice cubes kind of water it down. I also find that the juice and yogurt add enough sweetness, but if you like it even sweeter you can always add a bit of honey.
If you want some added protein then you can add a scoop of oatmeal, flax seed, or wheat germ to the mix. They don’t really change the flavour of the smoothie so you can add it to any kind. Buzzfeed has a few more suggestions you can check out here too.
And lastly, if you make too much you can pour the extra into an ice cube tray or ziploc bag (lay it flat) and freeze it for later! When you’re ready to drink it just throw it back in the blender with a little extra juice and re-blend it.
