Another post, another Pinterest inspired project! Since I had left over paint from my repurposed jar project, I thought I should do something else involving paint. I browsed around and found this “tape painting” diy, so I went out and got a canvas and a couple of hours later I have a brand new piece of artwork!
– Canvas ($1-3 at the dollar store, depending on the size)
– Acrylic craft paint ($1 each at Michael’s)
– Foam brushes ($1 for a pack of 3 at the dollar store)
– Masking tape
The original instructions said to spray paint the whole canvas one colour to start (this would be the colour of the lines), but I figured white would look fine so I skipped that step.
Use the masking tape to make any design you like, and make sure the tape goes right around to the back so that you can paint right to the edge.
Once you’re done taping start painting! I ended up doing 2 coats of each colour with about 20 minutes of drying time in-between. Which worked well because that was just enough time for my foam brushes to dry after cleaning them too.
I found that the paint did bleed a little bit under the tape, and I think it’s because I didn’t do a base coat. So if you don’t want that to happen make sure you have a smooth base coat to start with.
When you’re done painting, and the canvas is dry, peel the tape off slowly.
Hang it up and enjoy your new master piece!
